Cladophora
Filaments up to 100 micron across usually branched cells with reticulate chloroplasts. Plants often large and rougt to the touch ,frequently covered with epiphytes. Common usually attached to sticks stones or other hard surfaces in still or running water. Is very troublesome to pond owners as it rapidly grows into skeins and tangles several metres long and it is known to them as ' blanket weed' 42 b habit skech. Certain species form furry balls up to the size of tennis balls which roll around on the bottom of shallow lakes and pools and are recorded from various parts of Britain.
Filamentous algae are often found which have the cell structure of Cladophora but are unbranched. These may be long either to Cladophora or Rhizoclonium and deciding which is often difficult.
