Ochromonas


Motile unicell usually oval 2-25 micron long with 1 or 2 brown chloroplasts and long and a short flagellum. Chromulina is similar but only has 1 flagellum visible. Like many of their class they do not live long in microscope slide. Fairly common especially in spring in puddles ponds lakes etc.

Small cells up to 5um in diameter, united into a hollaw, roughly spherical, floating colony, sometimes blackish in appearanco and often sur-rounded by mucilage.
