Mesotaenium
A small cyndrical desmid 8-30 micron diameter With a flat chloroplast like Mougeotia It is particularly common in the jelly-like covering of wet rocks down which water trickles and is usually accompanied by blue-green algae of various species. Cylindrocystis is another small desmid which is very similar but this has two separate stellate chloroplasts.
