Haematococcus

Cells oval 10-30micron long contents separated from the wall by a clear space crossed by radial threads. The green chloroplast is sometimes masked by red coloured oil. The dense populations of this organism occurring in bird-baths wet hollows in rocks the depressions in manhole covers and other small temporary water- bodies may be either bright green or rusty red.
