Spherical or elliptical cells occurring singly or in pairs or fours, occasionally more, dividing in 3 planes at right angles to each other and surrounded by stratified sheaths. Contents granular, blue-green or brownish. Not uncommon in bog pools and salt marshes. Cells up to 50um across, but usually half or a quarter this size.
